Bulldogs Face Stiff Competition at Clarkston

On Saturday, January 10 the Romeo Varsity A team traveled to Clarkston High School to wrestle a couple top-ranked teams and a couple teams that are always good year in and year out.  It was a day the Bulldogs were looking for improvement after a great five days of practice.  It was a fantastic day of competition and improvement! 

It was evident the team came to wrestle.  The competition was stacked all day with Clarkston (ranked #5 in D1), Algonac (ranked #3 in D2),  Grandville and Hudsonville who are both always really good.

Bulldogs Compete at Catholic Central

On Saturday, January 3 the Romeo Varsity traveled to Catholic Central to wrestle in the toughest individual tournament in the state.  There were 30 teams represented, but, many teams only bring their top guys.  There are teams from every division so it is a mix of the best of the best.  Many top teams were in attendance.  

It was a great experience for the 10 Bulldog grapplers who represented Romeo High School!  After a fantastic week of practice it was a terrific way to see where we are at as individuals and as a team.  

We found out we can definitely compete with the best and we still have things to work on.  Overall it was a great day!

Romeo JV Travels to Lake Orion

On Saturday, January 3 all the wrestlers who did not compete at CC went to Lake Orion to get some great mat time!  Romeo entered 27 wrestlers and 17 placed top 3 including 5 champs!  

It was a great chance to see some new people and try some of the things we were working on the past week.  Overall it was a tremendous experience for all the Bulldog wrestlers!

Romeo Finishes 2nd in Macomb

The Bulldogs entered 49 wrestlers in the annual Macomb County Invitational.  This is a two day Varsity and JV event that took place on Friday, December 19 and Saturday, December 20.  The varsity tournament was hosted by Anchor Bay HS and the JV was held at Chippewa Valley HS.  It is a big 38 team tournament that pits all of Macomb County as well as teams from Saint Clair, Wayne, and Oakland Counties.

The Romeo wrestlers competed well over the two day tournament.  All 14 varsity wrestlers qualified for the for the second day of competition.  Overall eight varsity wrestlers earned medals while crowning two champions!  Everyone contributed team points to help Romeo take 2nd place.  It was a strong finish and a great place to start building as we head into the MAC Red dual meet season. 

The JV wrestlers earned 12 medals and crowned 4 champions.  The future looks bright with so many talented and hard-working young wrestlers training in the wings!

Bulldogs Travel to Findlay, Ohio

The Romeo Varsity A team went to the University of Findlay to wrestle in a big 24 team tournament on Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13.  Most of the teams were from Ohio with the exception of 5 teams from Michigan.  It was a very competitive field and a fantastic experience for the 15 wrestlers representing the Bulldogs.  

Romeo got off to a great start taking all five duals on the first day.  We are definitely seeing some great improvement!  Day two got off to a good start as the Bulldogs won their first 3 duals.  In the final match of pool play, Romeo ran into Lowell High School which has 12 consecutive team state titles and is currently ranked #1 in D2.  Romeo put up a great fight, but Lowell had too much depth and experience.  In the final crossover for 3rd place, Romeo ran into a very tough team from Ashland and came up a little short.

Overall it was a tremendous weekend with an 8-2 record, a 4th place finish, some exciting matches, and a great experience!  Here are the dual results:

Varsity B Competes at Avondale

The Romeo Varsity B team competed in the Jacket Invitational at Avondale High School on Saturday, December 13.  It was great experience for some of the younger Bulldogs to gain some valuable mat time and experience.  Here are the results: 

Romeo Places 3rd at Romeo Duals

The host Romeo Bulldogs invited a competitive field of 8 schools to attend the Romeo Duals on Saturday, December 6, 2025.  The season is young, but, there were already signs of improvement from the past Wednesday.  Romeo won their Pool against 3 solid teams while avenging a tough loss from last season to Otisville Lakeville Memorial HS.  The crossover match against Fenton saw a couple matches that could have gone either way decide the dual.  The final against CC (#1 in D1 and also nationally ranked) gave a glimpse of some potential match-ups at Ford Field for the Individual State Finals.

Varsity B Competes in Toys for Tots

The Romeo Bulldogs sent their Varsity B team to Warren Mott HS on Saturday, December 6 to compete in the Toys for Tots Tournament.  The Bulldogs sent 10 wrestlers and had 8 place in the top eight.  It was a great chance for the B-Team to gain valuable experience.

Romeo JV Wrestlers Off to a Great Start!

Romeo hosted a JV wrestling tournament on Friday, December 5, 2025.  There were nine teams in attendance from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties.  For many Bulldogs this was their first taste of high school competition.  Romeo had 10 champs of the 23 wrestlers they entered.  It was a terrific night of wrestling and a great start to the season for the Romeo JV team!

Bulldog Wrestlers Travel to Brighton to Open

With a young, talented group of 68 wrestlers and short preseason (a week shorter than usual) Romeo opened against two top-ranked programs in Brighton and Eaton Rapids on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.  It was a big test for the young Bulldogs.  Over half of the line-up was new faces and it was a bit of an eye-opener, but, it was also a fantastic gage of where we stand at this early stage of the season.
